All hydraulic cylinders manufactured today suffer from a common problem whereby hydraulic fluid can slowly drip from the cylinder rod end cartridge. After a period of time elapses a puddle becomes present from this slow dripping process, and then a myriad of other environmental and cleanliness problems begin to take place.

The Peninsular “Rod Cartridge Drain Back System” provides an effective means for all but eliminating the dripping condition that can become present, after a period of time, on Peninsular hydraulic cylinders. The Peninsular system works by capturing the hydraulic fluid and draining it back to the hydraulic reservoir tank before the slow fluid weepage has a chance to pass through the rod wiper seal and drip from the cylinder.

Peninsular’s drain back feature provides for an additional groove that is cut on the inside of the cylinder rod end cartridge, between the rod wiper and rod seal, that drains off any accumulation of hydraulic fluid between the seals and pushes it back to the reserve tank.

A cartridge drain port is machined into the retainer plate for a user installed drain line that is connected back to the reservoir. The below illustration depicts how the “Peninsular drain back system” works.
